What's Happening in the Counseling Lessons/Core Curriculum Lessons?
All 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students at FFMS participate in a 6 Core Curriculum Lessons. Three lessons are a part of a peer relations unit and three lessons are a part of an academic unit. All students participate in a Growth Mindset lesson and an Upstander Strategies lesson. Some students also participate in lessons on peer pressure, empathy, time management and self-advocacy.

Upstander Strategies1. Distracting:
Changing the subject or focus of an interaction, often with humor or a simple request or comment. 2. Balancing: Offering a positive compliment from your personal experience or belief about the person when a negative comment is made. 3. Supporting: Offer support to the person being mistreated by offering assistance, encouragement, etc. 4. Reasoning: Help the student doing the mistreating to consider a "reason" to not follow through with their behavior. help them consider the consequences for themselves and others. 5. Allying: Creating an ally with peers to help stand up to the mistreatment you see. 6. Getting Help: Reporting mistreatment to an adult. |
